The increasing number of electric cars on our roads translates to more and more of their batteries being disposed of. ARN collects both lithium-ion starter batteries and drive batteries.

Plastics in today’s cars will still be used in car parts 20, 30 and even 40 years’ time
Despite there being an average of 208 kilos of plastic in a car, currently a mere 19 per cent of it is recycled. Most of the plastic in an end-of-life vehicle (ELV) ends up in landfill, or is given a one-way ticket to an energy-recovery centre. This situation must be changed by mandating higher reuse rates and applying new plastic-recycling technologies.

Recycling EV batteries: the 5 biggest opportunities and challenges
Benchmark Mineral Intelligence estimates that by 2030 the production of lithium-ion electric vehicle (EV) batteries will increase to 6TWh (6,000GWh) a year, enough to power 109 million EVs. A challenge we face, however, is how to provide enough raw materials for all those batteries. Recycling will certainly play a major role, although there are still at least five hurdles to clear and opportunities to be seized.
