The role of ARN
Together with over two hundred partners, we ensure the collection and high-quality recycling of cars and car batteries.
Driving force behind car recycling
ARN has been the driving force behind car recycling in the Netherlands for over 30 years. We facilitate, we report, and we are at the heart of a network of importers, car-dismantling companies, shredding companies and recycling companies.
ARN collaborates with the entire recycling chain of vehicles and vehicle batteries, facilitates the implementation of producer responsibility, initiates where necessary, and innovates to continue meeting recycling goals in the future.
Level playing field
We are committed to a level playing field for everyone that is reliable and transparent. Outside the chain, ARN seeks collaboration with universities, research institutions, and companies to develop innovations for recycling techniques and materials.
Vision and mission
ARN stands for car recycling—done in the most sustainable way. And we achieve this together with all parties within the industry.
Mission
Ensuring that both now and in the long term, the legal objectives for vehicle and battery recycling are met responsibly and at acceptable costs.
Vision
Recycling of motorized vehicles contributes to the circular economy without harming the environment and living conditions. What is not possible now will be achievable in the future.
Long-term ambition
We aim to ensure that by 2050, the chain gradually, with our involvement, takes full responsibility for the reuse and recycling of motorized vehicles, shares knowledge about it, and reports on it. This way, they will be able to continue achieving recycling goals independently.
Legislation and regulations
Car and battery dismantling, transport, and recycling must comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations. ARN monitors upcoming laws and regulations, provides information, and arranges training to ensure that every company can meet the standards.
European regulations have been translated in the Netherlands into the Decree on the Management of Car Scraps (Bba) and the Decree on the Management of Batteries and Accumulators (Bbb), which outline the requirements for recycling.
On behalf of the car manufacturers and their representatives in the RAI Association, ARN reports to the government on the annual recycling performance.
Innovation
The automotive world has entered a fast lane. Electric vehicles are becoming the norm, and new materials are making their way into cars.
The recycling industry is responding to such changes. The specialists at ARN are looking ahead to the future. How can the collection and recycling of electric vehicles and batteries be optimized? How can advanced plastics in cars be incorporated into recycling?
ARN leverages research into practical innovations to ensure that car recycling can be as comprehensive as possible in the future, with the ultimate goal of contributing to a circular economy.
Scooter Recycling
In addition to the processing and recycling of cars and batteries, there is increasing attention for the recycling of scooters. Scooter Recycling Netherlands (SRN) is the Dutch recycling system for mopeds and scooters.
SRN provides a nationwide network of recognized drop-off points and dismantling companies for mopeds and scooters.
SRN is a partnership between RAI Association, BOVAG, and ARN.
