Processing in shredder companies and the PST factory

Shredder companies and the PST (Post-Shredder Technology) factory are important links in the high-value recycling of end-of-life vehicles. They are independent companies with which ARN collaborates closely.

Shredder company

After an end-of-life vehicle has been dismantled, its shell is sent to a shredder company. ARN has 13 affiliated shredder companies, including HKS The Metal Company in Moerdijk and Gerrits Recycling in Den Bosch.

Large installations in these companies shred the shell into small pieces. Metals, including iron, copper and aluminium, are recovered and passed on for reuse in the metalworking industry. Residual materials are sent to the PST factory in Tiel for further separation.

PST factory

The PST factory of HKS uses advanced Post-Shredder Technology. This is a set of techniques that, among other things, can separate various types of plastics.

This factory processes shredder waste, making a crucial contribution towards realising the mandatory recycling target of at least 95 per cent of end-of-life vehicles, by weight.

The process is broken down into various modules that extract finely shredded minerals, plastics, fibres and metal residues from the shredder waste.

Initially established by ARN, the PST factory was transferred to the market in 2020. The factory’s opening, back in April 2011, was a crucial step towards realising the target of being able to recycle at least 95 per cent of end-of-life vehicles.
