Overview of recycling fees 2015

In 2015, the recycling fee is set to remain at 45 euro (including VAT) for every new car sold. Two additional categories (nos 2 and 5) are to be added to the management fees for Li-ion batteries for hybrid and electrical cars. The amounts for the existing categories will remain the same.

The recycling fee makes it possible to comply with the legal obligation to achieve a recycling percentage of 95 percent in 2015. To reach the 95% recycling percentage and hence fulfil its statutory obligation, ARN works together with more than 300 companies in the end-of-life vehicle chain. The PST plant plays an important role in the process. On behalf of the automotive sector, ARN is responsible for implementing the Batteries Management Decree (Bbb). In return, ARN charges a management fee to the participants. The management fees for 2015 are as follows:

Batteries

The management fee for car (starter) batteries and NiMH batteries for hybrid cars will remain the same as in 2014: €0.05 (excluding VAT). Each year, ARN issues a report in the framework of the Bbb Decree to the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. The organisation also provides a national network of submission locations, where private end users can hand in their battery, free of charge.

Li-ion batteries

Two additional categories (nos 2 and 5) are due to be added to the system of management fees for Li-ion batteries for hybrid and electrical cars. The amounts for the existing categories will remain unchanged.

1. €15 per battery (including VAT) for a battery weight ≤5 kg
2. €35 per battery (including VAT) for a battery weight >5 kg and ≤25 kg
3. €90 per battery (including VAT) for a battery weight >25 kg and ≤100 kg
4. €180 per battery (including VAT) for a battery weight >100 kg and ≤350 kg
5. For batteries weighing >350 kg, the management fee will be determined according to each individual situation.

If an importer opts to (partially) collect and process the Li-ion batteries for itself, ARN is of course able to provide an individual tailor-made solution. We will be happy to discuss the administrative process in each individual case. If ARN only undertakes the administrative obligations for the Bbb Decree, the only amount charged in terms of management fee is the €0.05 excluding VAT per battery referred to above.
