An old car still contains valuable parts and materials — more than you might think. Together with its industry partners, ARN ensures that over 98% of a vehicle’s weight is effectively reused. The recycling process begins at a car dismantling company, where the vehicle is deregistered with the national vehicle authority (RDW). The first step involves carefully draining fluids such as oil, brake fluid, and coolant. These liquids are then sustainably processed by recycling companies, preventing environmental pollution and enabling high-quality recycling.
Next, reusable parts are salvaged. This includes bumpers, lights, doors, and even electronics of entire engine blocks. Everything of value is meticulously dismantled so it can be given a second life.

More than just dismantling
After the dismantling process, what remains is the bare car shell. This wreck is sent to a shredding company, where it is inspected to ensure completeness. Then, using a combination of raw force and advanced separation techniques, the car is broken down into smaller fragments. Curious about how this works? You’ll see it all in our video!
Cars made from recycled materials
Innovation in car recycling never stops. The first prototypes of a vehicle made largely from recycled materials are already making their debut at auto shows. The expectation is that the demand for high-quality recycled materials will only continue to increase in the coming years.
