The government-wide Circular Economy programme focuses making the move to a circular economy by 2050 It’s a huge challenge. Car recycling already plays a major role in this and contributes 216 million kilos of recycled material.
Figures from Statistics Netherlands show that the approximately 9% of the 549 billion kilos of materials that find their way into the economy in our country are recycled, secondary materials. That is 48 billion kilos, to be more precise. The high recycling percentage achieved by ARN chain partners means that car recycling alone provides 216 million kilos of recycled materials each year: 0.44 per cent of the total. It is a respectable quantity.
Sustainable Development Goals
For the second year, ARN has submitted itself to the yardstick of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the motto ‘lean and green’ in mind. The colored SDGs shown opposite apply specifically to the content of this page.
Those 216 million kilos from car recycling make a contribution to the wider aim of keeping our planet liveable. After all, our planet will have a population of nine billion people in 2050. If we do not change our production and consumption, we will be using three times as many raw materials by that time. Something needs to be done if we do not want shortages of raw materials or to burden the environment with high quantities of carbon dioxide According to the government, we cannot do anything else but move from a linear to a circular economy.
If it is left to the government-wide Circular Economy programme, there will no longer be any residual waste by 2050. ARN enjoys working with its chain partners on achieving this extremely ambitious goal!
